Proposed Improvement to U.S. 41 in Lake County

  • by

⚠ Public Comment Period Open

A public hearing was held on March 23, 2026. INDOT is accepting written comments through April 8, 2026. Cedar Lake residents and property owners along the corridor are encouraged to review the project and submit comments before the deadline.

About the Project

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is proposing to construct a Two-Way Left-Turn Lane (TWLTL) along U.S. 41 from approximately 3.35 miles south of U.S. 231 (south of W. 133rd Avenue) north to the U.S. 231 intersection. This will require widening U.S. 41 in both directions throughout the construction corridor.

The primary purpose of this project is to improve safety along a segment of U.S. 41 that has experienced a significantly higher-than-average crash rate, largely due to the absence of a left-turn refuge for drivers accessing cross streets and driveways.

10Fatal incidents since 2013
278Crashes since 2022
79Injuries since 2022
2Deaths since 2022
