Town Council
Town Council Duties and Responsibilities
The Town Council has the power to make and establish such bylaws, ordinances, and resolutions as are necessary to its citizens’ welfare and safety, so long as they do not conflict with the laws of the State of Indiana. In addition, the Council has the right to repeal, alter, or amend as it deems necessary. Other duties of the Town Council include:
- Ensure that all current projects and long-range plans are carried out to the best of their ability;
- To ensure prudent use of the taxpayer’s dollars;
- To provide effective management of the legislative and administrative programs necessary to provide Town services;
- To maintain the public’s investment in capital facilities and equipment required to deliver Town services;
- To encourage, assist, and sustain well-planned residential, commercial, and industrial growth;
- To cooperate with neighboring communities, governmental agencies, and other groups to accomplish goals for the betterment of the Town and the surrounding area, and
- To maintain good communication with the citizens of Cedar Lake to implement “Quality of Life” programs for the Town.
