Town Dumpster

The Cedar Lake Public Works Department has dumpsters available to its residents Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the third Saturday of each month, January through December, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Refer to the events calendar for more information.

Since this is a taxpayer-funded service, we ask that visitors please stop in the office to be checked in, presenting photo identification (driver’s license or a state-issued photo ID) and/or a Cedar Lake utility bill issued from the Town (the Town of Cedar Lake utility bill-received from Town Hall-is necessary for the event that one owns property in Town but whose driver’s license states otherwise).

Not Accepted Items
Tires, household garbage, roofing materials, concrete, bricks, railroad ties, and hazardous materials such as paints, oils, fuels, fluorescent bulbs, and ammunition are not accepted.

The Lake County Solid Waste Management District does accept hazardous materials at various locations throughout the year. Click the link below for a list of hazardous material collection schedules and accepted items.

Yard Waste

Any unwanted branches or yard waste can be disposed of at Public Works during regular business hours: Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on the third Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Please refer to our branch stipulations page for information on whether branches are collected for our residents via the branch pickup service Public Works provides or if they are brought to the Public Works Department.

Leaves, weeds, and grass clippings are among the yard wastes brought to the Public Works Department for disposal. Residents who bring yard waste in brown paper bags are welcome to leave the entire bag in the collection. However, if yard waste is brought in any other container, it must be dumped out of that container.

Saturday Cleanups

The Town of Cedar Lake Public Works Department offers property access on the 3rd Saturday of each month for Cedar Lake residents to bring large or unwanted items for disposal at the Public Works Department. Such items include furniture, carpet, wood, and appliances. If you have a question about a specific item(s), please call in advance at 219-374-7478.

We ask residents to sign in just as visitors would during regular business hours. Since this is a taxpayer-funded service, we ask that visitors present photo identification (driver’s license or a state-issued photo ID) and/or a Cedar Lake utility bill issued from the Town (this is necessary for the event that one owns property in Town but whose driver’s license states otherwise).

Residential Dumpster Schedule
Access is now available on the third Saturday of each month, January through December, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please refer to the Town Calendar for the dates.

Electronic Waste/Recycling

Electronic waste is also collected here at Public Works. This is another service offered by the Lake County Solid Waste Management District and is available during regular business hours: Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on the 3rd Saturday of each month that Public Works is open, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Lake County Solid Waste Management District Electronic Recycling website has a complete list of accepted items.

E-recyclables include but are not limited to TVs, computers (monitors, mice, keyboards, towers, cords), printers, fax machines, and cell phones.
