- Comprehensive Plan Open House Sessions
Public Open House for the Cedar Lake 2040 Comprehensive Plan on April 1, 2026
The Town of Cedar Lake has initiated a community-wide planning effort and seeks public input as part of the Cedar Lake Vision 2040 Comprehensive Plan process.
Town officials and staff in Cedar Lake are developing a new comprehensive plan for the community. The Cedar Lake Vision 2040 Comprehensive Plan will establish a future vision to guide growth, development, utility infrastructure, and more over the next 15 years. This vision will be developed according to input from residents and a planning Steering Committee made up of town officials, town staff, residents, business owners, and other local stakeholders.
Residents and interested community members of Cedar Lake are invited to attend the first Public Open House on April 1st, 2026. At the Open House, community members will have the opportunity to provide input that will shape the vision of the comprehensive plan as well as the future of Cedar Lake.
This meeting will be held in an “open house” style, meaning there is no formal presentation. Community members can choose to arrive at any time during the session and remain for as long as they prefer. At the open house, the planning team will share information about the plan, answer questions from the public, and accept public comments about the vision and focus of the Cedar Lake Vision 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
The open house will be held on Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, at the new Cedar Lake Municipal Complex located at 7228 Constitution Avenue (corner of Morse Street and Constitution Avenue). There are two open house sessions that day. The first session is from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and the second session is from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Residents are welcome to attend either session. Both sessions will be identical and feature the same set up and content.
To learn more about the project, sign up for updates, take the online survey, and find additional project details, community members are encouraged to visit the project website at engage-tswdg.com/cedar-lake-2040-plan

âš Public Comment Period Open
A public hearing was held on March 23, 2026. INDOT is accepting written comments through April 8, 2026. Cedar Lake residents and property owners along the corridor are encouraged to review the project and submit comments before the deadline.About the Project
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is proposing to construct a Two-Way Left-Turn Lane (TWLTL) along U.S. 41 from approximately 3.35 miles south of U.S. 231 (south of W. 133rd Avenue) north to the U.S. 231 intersection. This will require widening U.S. 41 in both directions throughout the construction corridor.
The primary purpose of this project is to improve safety along a segment of U.S. 41 that has experienced a significantly higher-than-average crash rate, largely due to the absence of a left-turn refuge for drivers accessing cross streets and driveways.

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS
March 23, 2026
Shades Phase 2 Residents,
We will be starting Phase 2 of our Project on/after Tuesday, March 24, 2026 and will be completed by July 2026. Please expect limited to no access to Fairbanks St, Windsor Ave, Hobart St, Fernwood Ave, and 141st Ave during working hours (M-F, 7am – 5pm with work occasionally later and on Saturdays, if necessary) until late July 2026.
The reconstruction of the streets consists of removal of existing roadways & driveway aprons, underground storm sewer work, roadway reconstruction, installation of concrete curbs, installation of driveway aprons, asphalt roadway paving, and landscaping. The CP Schools Transportation Department has been made aware of our project and will be in touch regarding any changes (if applicable) for continued pickup/drop off of kids for school. Republic Services and USPS have also been contacted and will continue service throughout the project. Garbage and Recycling may be picked up earlier first thing in the morning on garbage days ahead of our work starting for the day, so they ensure they have access to the streets.
We plan to accommodate all of you to the best of our ability while we push forward to complete this project quickly. Please plan accordingly to limit access in and out of your homes as much as possible during construction hours so that the contractors can complete their work in a safe and timely fashion and so that the residents have a safer surface to travel on. If you need access to your car/house during construction hours, we kindly ask that you try to communicate with neighbors on other streets that are not being constructed and park in their driveways and switch off for the duration of the project. Please do not block any driveways, mailboxes, or fire hydrants when parking. All residents will have access to their driveways at the end of the workday each evening to park in their driveway (except during concrete work and curing time). We know this is going to cause an inconvenience and we appreciate your patience and cooperation. If you have a scheduled time in the near future where you will absolutely need access to your home or if you have any questions relating to this project, please contact Matt Scarella w/ Christopher Burke Engineering who will be overseeing this Rieth Riley project on behalf of the Town of Cedar Lake.
Thank you,
Jacob Ogiego
