Compensation: This position has a maximum hourly rate of $23.28. The rate for this position will be commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include health insurance with medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, participation in the Indiana Public Retirement System, and paid time off and vacation. The Town of Cedar Lake has an employee assistance program through Franciscan Health.

Job Summary:

The Public Works Crew Worker is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of town streets, sidewalks, and related facilities. This position is responsible for duties including but not limited to patching potholes, snow plowing, loading and unloading of stone, gravel, dirt, asphalt, timber, and heavy mechanical equipment. Assists in semi-skilled work by handling tools, carrying, lifting, or cleaning trash, debris, brush, and other duties as required.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license, with CDL B

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in general maintenance
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Town policies and procedures
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while exercising good judgement
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal with all levels of staff, departments, and the general public
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical work as well as work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment
